Farm Fresh, Small Scale, Sustainable Dairying.

You’re not alone if you have ever dreamed of having fresh milk from a family cow, but have limitations of space, time, and working bovine knowledge.
Do you suffer from negative health impacts when you consume processed dairy? Are you lactose intolerant looking for a better option?

There is a better option. Our Cows Milk Herdshare Program!

Our Herdshare Program allows you to become the share-owner of a portion of our small herd of dairy cows.
As the share-owner, you have access to a portion of your whole, unprocessed milk.
Milk shares are currently available for weekly pickup from our farm. Our dairy cows are Jerseys, (except for one that is Jersey-Holstein cross) which are known for their rich, creamy milk that has a higher butterfat percentage than other breeds of dairy cattle. This not only makes delicious milk, but provides us with abundant cream. We never separate cream from our members’ milk, so you’ll find a thick “cream line” on top of your weekly shares. Simply shake the bottle gently to mix it in, or skim it for other uses like making butter, cheese, or ice cream!

Pickup is available from our farm, and we are pleased to announce that we have added a pickup point at Thrive Chiropractic and Wellness Center in Caledonia, MI! Delivery to Thrive is $10/month.

We are members of Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund, and have worked closely with them to form our Herdshare with its corresponding legal documents. We are thrilled to be able to offer this option that works for both us, as the farmers, and you, as the consumer.

We believe that milk is medicine, and that pasteurization destroys the nutritional value. Milk that is raw and unprocessed contains compounds that support the friendly-bacteria that produces lactase, which is designed to help digest the lactose. According to a study in Michigan, upwards of 85% of those diagnosed as lactose intolerant could handle raw milk. Additionally, the nutritional value of calcium, folate, and other vitamins and minerals are intact and able to be absorbed in the way that it was designed. Additionally, unprocessed milk supports healthy gut health, which is essential to overall well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What are the cows fed?

    • Our cows are grass-fed. We feed non-GMO alfalfa pellets and Chaffhaye (premium, cultured, chopped non-GMO alfalfa) while we milk our cows, in addition to supplements of Fertrell dairy minerals, organic kelp meal, and apple cider vinegar. They have access to fresh pasture from the Spring until late Fall, and during the winter, they are provided with alfalfa/grass hay that is not sprayed or treated.

  • Are your cows A2A2?

    • We believe strongly that the digestibility of milk is less about the specific proteins, and more about the process of pasteurization. The majority of our cows are A2A2, but some are also A1A2. We do not separate milk into different tanks according to their A2 status, and we do not offer exclusively A2A2. Some of our best cows are A1A2 and we have never had any complaints about the digestibility of our milk, in fact we have had the opposite! Members have repeatedly reported to us that they are able to enjoy milk and dairy products that they make with our milk, even if they have struggled with dairy previously.

  • Can I skip a week? What if I go on vacation?

    • When you join our Herdshare, you become an owner of our cows. As an owner, you have access to the milk - but since the cows don’t take vacation, your boarding fee will still be applied even if you don’t pick up your share. You are welcome to skip a week, or have another Herdshare member pick up your share if you will be unavailable.

  • Can I bring my own bottles from home or from a previous Herdshare or Farm?

    • For several reasons, we do not accept outside bottles. We provide our own glass, half-gallon bottles that you return each week.
